Course and Subject Information

Coromandel Area School is able to offer a diverse curriculum. Students increasingly design their own curriculum in Years 11-13 with guidance from their Mentor teacher and in collaboration with their whanau, parents and caregivers.

As an area school we are able to access many external providers for courses which range from agriculture through to sports science. students have a flexible working environment and are able to enjoy courses which will help them achieve their career goals.

Te Kura (Correspondence School)

Our students are able to study a variety of subjects from external providers. Te Kura provide course material, specialist subject teachers for our students to study almost any NCEA subject. Students complete the majority of their work for Te Kura courses in supervised distance Learning classes which are supported by Coromandel Area School staff.

Students in years 12 and 13 are able to take part in the Gateway program. this allows students to earn work related credits whilst learning practical skills within a work environment. Students have had successful placements in some of the following areas:

  • Fishing industry
  • Early Childcare Centres
  • Building, plumbing and electrical placements
  • Event management
  • Hospitality and catering
  • Farming
